Excel: Compare tables - how to find the differences
It often happens that you have tables in different versions. If these need to be merged, then it makes sense to use functions in Excel. This way you don't have to search and adjust the differences manually. Nevertheless, some steps are necessary for the comparison and merging.
How to compare tables with each other in Excel
If you have two very similar tables, the differences are not so easy to see at first glance. The manual search can be very cumbersome, especially with larger data sets. For this reason, it is a good idea to use various functions in Excel to save work and time.- First you need to open the two tables that you want to compare with each other.
- In the first table, select the entire content. For this you can use the key combination "CTRL" + "A". Then press the key combination "CTRL" + "C" to copy all the contents.
- Now use the key combination "CTRL" + "V" to paste the copied table at the end of the second table.
- Mark the first column to remove duplicate entries in it. Then click on the "File" tab at the top and then select the "Remove duplicates" option.
- After that, the column will be scanned for duplicate entries and they will be removed automatically. Entries that differed from the first table are at the end of the second table.
- Apply the tool to all columns.
