Football Manager 2020's database includes several hundred thousand players. Even a score in 2050 doesn't change that, because new players are always coming in.

Football Manager 2020: Regens are actually newgens

The term "Regens" is actually no longer quite correct. It comes from "regenerated" and in previous versions described the appearance of new, young players with old familiar names.

• This was important the longer a score progressed, as real-life role models would one day retire. Thanks to Regens, the player pool was always replenished, for example with a blood young Oliver Kahn.
• However, in FM 2020 there are no Regens in the real sense anymore. New players are no longer created on the basis of old, real players, but purely fictitious.
• The technically correct term is therefore "newgen", based on "newly generated".
• Since the term Regens has been naturalized in the community for many years, it will simply continue to be used.

Since Regens and Newgens describe the same principle apart from one detail, namely the generation of new players in the database, there is no reason for the community to part with the old habit. For you, the reader (or viewer), this means that in both cases it is simply a matter of generated players that do not exist in reality.
