Change Windows XP Language: How it works

After installing Windows XP, it may happen that the wrong language is set. Since Windows has stopped supporting XP, language packs for XP can no longer be downloaded.

Two options: Change language in Windows XP

First, test whether you can change the language directly in the Control Panel. This is not possible in every version.

1. Open the Control Panel and navigate to "Region and Language Options".
2. Click here on "Language".
3. Now change the language under "Language for dialogs and displays".

To be able to change the language in Windows XP, you need the Windows XP Professional Multilingual Version (MUI) and the Service Pack 3. Since the MUI is no longer offered by Microsoft, it may need to be downloaded from another source as an ISO.

1. Burn the ISO to a CD or a boot stick
2. Once you boot, the MUISETUP.exe is executed. This tests whether all prerequisites are met.
3. If these are given, can now be selected "German-German". To do this, you must remove all other hooks.
4. Click on "Next" and select "default user settings" again "German". Setzen Sie zwei Haken und bestätigen Sie mit „Ok“.
5. Stimmen Sie im nächsten Fenster einem Neustart zu.
6. Öffnen Sie danach die Systemsteuerung „control panel“, dazu einfach auf „Start“ drücken und in die Suche „control panel“ eintippen.
7. Wählen Sie in der Systemsteuerung „regional and language options“, wählen Sie den Reiter „languages“ und gehen Sie ganz unten im Drop-Down-Menü auf „languages used“ in „menu and dialoges". Wählen Sie statt Englisch nun Deutsch aus.
8. Nach einem erneuten Neustart ist die Sprache nun umgestellt.
