Fully mountain bike: what categories are there? Overview

Whoever decides to buy a so-called Fully, there are subsequently several categories to choose from. These are quite decisive for the suitability of the mountain bike. We have the overview.

A question of suspension: Fully mountain bikes are built quite differently.

The generic term of Fully mountain bikes includes several important gradations. These are based primarily on one criterion.

These Fully categories exist

A classification is possible based on the suspension travel. The exact values are not officially defined, for orientation applies:
  • Cross Country: 100 - 120 mm
  • All Mountain: 130 - 150 mm
  • Enduro: 150 - 170 mm
  • Freeride: 170 - 190 mm
  • Downhill: 180 - 220 mm
The logic behind this is: the less suspension travel a mountain bike has, the faster and sportier it is - provided the terrain allows it. With more suspension travel, correspondingly harder terrain is possible. Purebred downhill mountain bikes therefore have the greatest suspension travel; their intended use is exclusively the descent on demanding routes.
