Testing WoW for free: This is the Starter Edition

Whoever doesn't know World of Warcraft yet can try the MMORPG for free. We introduce the Starter Edition and explain what it offers and what restrictions there are.

Up to level 20: The Starter Edition offers you theoretically unlimited game time.

The Starter Edition is basically available to all accounts. Even players who have not yet purchased World of Warcraft can get to know the game with it.

How to test WoW for free via Starter Edition

The prerequisite for playing is Blizzard's in-house Bnet Launcher. World of Warcraft must be installed there. Then you can select the so-called Starter Edition above the "Play" button instead of your own account. This way, neither the main game nor an active subscription are necessary.Included are the following features and restrictions:
  • You can create any characters and level them up to level 20. Even after that, you can continue playing, but you cannot level up.
  • You can accumulate up to 1,000 gold in the process.
  • In addition to the level restriction, restrictions include features such as pet battles, whisper messages with players not on your friends list, mail, and the auction house, group creation, and voice chat.
  • In addition, the Starter Edition is only available for the current state of the game (Shadowlands), not WoW Classic.
Overall, the Starter Edition is a generous offer, as it gives you many hours of playtime with the core features of the game. To get a taste of the game, the Starter Edition is thus absolutely recommended. All official details can be found on this Blizzard page.
