Setting up WeChat Pay - how to use the payment method

The developers of the Chinese messenger WeChat offer a cardless payment service in addition to the ability to send messages. The payment method is, as already with Google Pay and Apple Pay, via an app and your smartphone. Here, you also have to specify a bank account. But other conditions must also be met.

How to set up WeChat on your smartphone

The Chinese messenger service WeChat has been offering its own payment method for some time. As you already know it from Apple and Google Pay, you set up WeChat Pay on your smartphone. However, the setup is only possible if you are in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau or mainland China.

1. With WeChat Pay, you can only deposit a Visa or a Master Card. Otherwise, you use a Chinese bank account.
2. In addition, a Chinese personal ID is required to use the service.
3. Once all requirements are met, download the WeChat Pay app via the App Store.
4. Go to the tab "Me".
5. Now select the menu item "Wallet". Here you will also see the Card icon. Over it you can add a suitable credit card.
6. The name with which you have registered within the app is automatically adopted. If you want to change it later, this is no longer possible.
7. Finally, you can accept the conditions and confirm the process via "Ok".
