You will find data discs while digging in the ruins. Then you can use them as currency:

• In some stores you can only pay with data discs, namely in the church store and in the research center.
• The purchasable items are quite different: In the church store you get mainly plant seeds, in the research center there are technical items.
• In addition, you unlock certain objects with data discs, in the beginning, for example, the oven. You get the blueprint after you have given Petra in the research center five data discs.
