Transferring iPhone contacts: how to do it

Having purchased a new iPhone, you can easily synchronize most of your data. One of the most important contents on your new smartphone are of course your contacts. You can easily transfer your iPhone contacts via backup.

The easiest way to transfer your contacts to another iPhone is via backup. To do this, you first create a backup of your contacts on the old device - either via iTunes or completely wirelessly via iCloud. As soon as you want to put the new device into operation, you can then load the contacts and all other data that you want to transfer on the device.

iCloud: Create backup and transfer iPhone contacts

A backup of your data via iCloud, can be done quickly and easily. In addition to your contacts, you can so also your calendar, app data and much more quickly backup and transfer to a new or newly set up iPhone.
  1. Open the settings.
  2. Now tap on your Apple ID at the top.
  3. Then switch to the menu "iCloud".
  4. You can activate here the slider at "Contacts", so that your contacts are synchronized with the iCloud. Alternatively, you can also create a full backup of your iPhone.

Transferring data from the old iPhone to the new device

Depending on whether you want to set up your backup via iTunes or iCloud, the procedure varies.
  • Once you have created your backup wirelessly via iCloud, you can turn on your new iPhone and set it up. In the Apps and Data screen, select "Restore from iCloud Backup" accordingly.
  • Alternatively, connect your new device to your PC or Mac. The first time you connect to iTunes, you will be asked if you want to upload a backup.
With the backup, your iPhone contacts will then also be transferred automatically.
