As you know, chats are at the heart of WhatsApp. But to check which contacts you have in your list or to start a new chat, there is no way around the contact list.

1. Open WhatsApp.
2. You are now in the chat overview. Tap the green icon at the bottom right to start a new chat.
3. You will now see all your contacts in the familiar list view. To start a new chat, simply tap on the desired contact.
4. Updating your contacts now also takes place in this window. Tap on the icon with the three dots in the top right corner of the contact overview and then select "Refresh". If you have entered new contacts in your phonebook and these contacts also use WhatsApp, you will be shown after the refresh.

To do this, navigate in the app menu to "Settings" > "Contacts" and put a check mark next to "Show all contacts". Then switch back to the chat overview, tap on the three dots and select "Refresh".
