You will already meet Iudex Gundyr after a few minutes, while you still think you are in the tutorial. This early shock is no coincidence, but should prepare you for everything that follows.

Dark Souls 3: With these tips you can defeat Iudex Gundyr

The fight against Iudex Gundyr consists of two phases:

• At the beginning you fight against Iudex Gundyr in the knight form. This deals heavy damage - blocking is not advisable, as your starter shield does not have much to counter the weapon. Dodge by rolling is the keyword here.
• After all, the attacks are relatively slow and are well announced. After a short time, you should be able to read the attack patterns well. This opens windows for effective attacks.
• At about half the health bar, the fight goes into the second phase. Iudex Gundyr transforms into a massive mutation with tentacles.
• Here is the recipe for success: stay close to the enemy, preferably in his back, and roll through the heavy attacks. This way you have plenty of time to dish out damage.

With the right rhythm you will master both phases in a short time and have the first boss on your hands. After that, you'll get to the fireband shrine and the game really gets going - so it's worth not giving up on this first test.
