Netflix poor quality: So streaming is no fun

The streaming service Netflix, like any other online service, requires an Internet connection. Depending on how fast your connection is or how much of a strain it puts on your bandwidth, this will naturally be reflected in the playback quality.

Where does the poor quality come from?

Any media player has to buffer when bandwidth is insufficient. In this process, the player downloads and pre-stores data so that if the loading time is sufficient, the stream can continue without interruption.
  1. To prevent this, Netflix live reduces the playback quality. This allows the user to watch without interruption.
  2. You can specify in the settings that Netflix does not choose this path. Under certain circumstances, the service estimates your bandwidth poorly and constantly switches between good and low quality.
  3. Generally, of course, you should make sure that your monitor has the necessary resolution for playback. Full HD are 1920 x 1080 pixels.
  4. Kill any processes that could currently consume bandwidth in addition to the stream. Close unnecessary tabs, turn off the WLAN on your smartphone and shut down other computers.
  5. Do a speed test online to find out if your connection is even strong enough to handle a high resolution.
  6. Also look for possible glitches with your provider, should the drop in quality come suddenly and unexpectedly. A router restart can sometimes solve the problem.

More tips for the Netflix app

If you watch Netflix on your smartphone and the quality is very poor, you should also check the WLAN connection and restart the router. After that, restart your device. Finally, check for system updates or an update for the Netflix app.
