Encrypt PDFs securely: How to do it

If you want to protect PDF documents from changes or you don't want them to be read by everyone, you can protect them with a password. This can be done, for example, with the free program PDF 24 Creator. You will find many setting options for password protection here.

Protect PDFs with password

To encrypt a PDF, you must protect the document with a password. In doing so, you can decide which actions need password protection. For example, you can require a password only when making changes to the document, or you can prevent the file from being opened without a password. To encrypt documents, you need a program that can edit PDF document. The free Adobe Reader is not suitable for this purpose. You can install PDF 24 Creator instead. Alternatively, the change can also be made with the paid Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Encrypt PDFs with PDF24 Creator

1. Open the PDF24 Creator program.
2. Select "PDF Printer Wizard".
3. Select the document you want to encrypt.
4. Click "Upload".
5. Select "Save as".
6. In the new dialog box, click "Security" on the left.
7. Setzen Sie ein Häkchen bei „Dokument schützen“.
8. Unter „Passwort zur Verschlüsselung“ geben Sie das gewünschte Kennwort ein.
9. Wählen Sie aus, welche Aktionen Sie mit einem Kennwortschutz versehen wollen.
10. Soll das Dokument auch vor dem Öffnen geschützt werden, setzen Sie einen Haken bei „Passwort zum Öffnen erforderlich“.
11. Gehen Sie auf „Weiter“ und bestätigen Sie die Änderungen dann mit „Speichern“.
12. Das Dokument wird nun als neue Datei abgespeichert. Achten Sie beim Versenden darauf, die neue Version zu verschicken.
