Coins are a kind of digital currency of TikTok. Their purpose is clearly defined:

• TikTok users can buy the Coins with real money. The smallest amount is 100 coins for 99 cents. For this, users must be at least 18 years old.
• Afterwards, the Coins can be given away to TikTok streamers. This is done either directly in the form of Coins or after conversion into digital gifts such as emojis.
• If streamers receive Coins or gifts from viewers of their streams, they can then convert them into money. With Coins, streamers thus earn real money.

From the user's point of view, Coins are thus a way to financially support your favorite stars so that they continue to create content. This system is also established on other platforms, most notably the bits on Twitch are virtually identical to this.
