Can I delete the Mozilla Maintenance Service?

As soon as a new update for Firefox is released, the Mozilla Maintenance Service takes over. If this is enabled, you will not be asked for permission, but the update will be installed automatically. However, if you do not want this, you can disable the service at any time in the settings.

How to delete Mozilla's Maintenance Service

If you want to be prompted before installing an update for Firefox, then you need to disable Mozilla's Maintenance Service. Alternatively, you can completely delete the application from your computer.
  1. To do this, go to Windows Settings and select "Programs". Then click "Uninstall a program".
  2. Search for "Mozilla Maintenance Service" in the list and click the "Uninstall a program" button afterwards.

Disable the Maintenance Service

If you do want to use Mozilla Maintenance Service at some point, you also have the option to disable it temporarily instead of deleting it completely from the system.
  1. Open Firefox and click on the menu icon in the top right corner.
  2. Then click on the "Settings" menu item.
  3. Here you go to the "General" and "Firefox Updates" section.
  4. Now disable the option "Use a background service to install updates" by unchecking the box.
  5. The Mozilla maintenance service is now disabled and you will be asked as soon as an update should be installed. To re-enable the service, you can check the box at the appropriate option.
