E-scooters: legal situation - these rules apply to the vehicle
If you want to drive an e-scooter, you can buy a new vehicle or use the offer of various rental providers. Even though driving an e-scooter is easy, you need to follow some rules. These are set out in the regulation for very small electric vehicles.
This legal situation applies to an e-scooter
More and more providers are popping up everywhere that make it possible to rent an e-scooter. However, the e-scooters are subject to the regulation for micro electric vehicles since June 2019. This regulation specifies the conditions that must be met in order for an e-scooter to be allowed to participate in road traffic. But there are also some requirements for the driver.- For an e-scooter model, a general operating permit must be available. For this, the vehicle is tested by the TÜV on verschlide specifications.
- Alternatively, you can apply for your e-scooter an individual operating permit.
- The e-scooter may only drive a maximum of 20 km / h and must be throttled to this speed.
- The driver of the vehicle must be at least 14 years old and does not require a driver's license.
- A general helmet obligation does not exist because of the low speed, but it is recommended to wear a helmet.
- In traffic, you must comply with all existing traffic regulations.
