Repartitioning your hard drive on Mac - how to do it

If you want to reformat your hard drive on Mac to divide it into different areas, then it is quite easy to do so in a few steps. Such partitions thereby protect against data loss, as your data is located in different segments of the hard drive.

How to reformat your hard drive on Mac

Partitioning is always useful if you have stored important data on your computer and want to protect it against loss.
  1. To do this, first open the "Applications" folder, then switch to "Utilities".
  2. Now you will see your hard drive in the left column, including existing partitions.
  3. In the "Partition Layout" you can now use the button "Partition" to look at the partitions in more detail.
  4. Press "+", you have the option to add a new partition.
  5. Now mark the newly created partition, then you can specify the size, a name and the format. Confirm this with a click on "Apply".
  6. Now you just have to be patient for a moment, as your partition is created and processed.

So succeeds the formatting via a program

If either the entire hard drive or individual partitions to be removed or formatted, then this also succeeds in the Disk Utility.
  1. Switch in the folder "Programs" to "Utilities".
  2. Now mark on the left side the hard drive or partition that you want to delete.
  3. Press the "Delete" button, which will take you to the settings.
  4. Select a default format and name.
  5. Kick "Delete" and then confirm your selection.
  6. After a short time the formatting is finished and the partition or hard disk can be used again.
