Sharing ports: How does it work?

If you want to join a network or a server together with other computers, you may need to share ports. This is the only way to give the other participants the access they need.

Release ports via FritzBox

The following way to release ports via your router

1. In the address bar of your browser, enter the router IP or fritz.box.
2. Log in with your credentials.
3. Click the "Internet" menu on the left and select the "Shares" subitem.
4. You will see a list of devices that are or have been connected to your Internet access.
5. Click "New share" in the bottom right corner.
6. Check "Port sharing active for: Other application". Select "Other application".
7. Enter a name if desired.
8. Select "UDP" or "TCP" as the protocol, depending on the server. Do not know what it is, try "TCP" first.
9. Enter a port range or put the same number twice to release only one port.
10. Select the computer.
11. Tragen Sie noch einmal den gleichen Port wie zuvor ein und speichern Sie die Einstellungen.

Einstellungen über Windows 10

Auch direkt im Betriebssystem haben Sie die Möglichkeit, Ports freizugeben:

1. Öffnen Sie die Systemsteuerung. Am einfachsten suchen Sie diesen Begriff in der Windows-Suche.
2. Hier klicken Sie auf „Windows Defender Firewall > Erweiterte Einstellungen“.
3. Klicken Sie nun auf „Eingehende Regeln > Neue Regel > Port“.
4. Geben Sie die nötigen Daten ein, um den Port freizugeben.
