Converting Word to HTML: How easy it works

When you write content in Word, you directly see the finished result. However, depending on the technique, it may be useful or even necessary to convert the whole thing to HTML. Fortunately, this is easy to do and we'll show you how.

From Word to HTML or vice versa: in both cases you have several options.

How to convert Word files to HTML

The basics of HTML are easy to understand and can be extremely handy for customizing certain details. Converting Word to HTML or vice versa is no magic either. Word files can be converted to HTML format directly in Word by first opening the file in the program. Then navigate to "File" > "Save as" and select the option "Web page (*.htm;*.html)" under "File type".

Convert Word to HTML: These other options you have

In addition to the option described above, there are several other options for conversion:
  • In WordPress, posts are automatically displayed in both formats. If you compose a content in the (default) WYSIWYG view, which is similar in principle to the Word format, you can simply switch to the HTML view.
  • External to the CMS, there are websites where the conversion is possible. For example, on wordtohtml.net: Per Copy & Paste you simply paste your Word content here and get the HTML version in the lower half.
With these two options, all eventualities are already covered. Both formats have their advantages. HTML is suitable for certain settings, for example for individual properties of hyperlinks or to include special elements. In Word format, on the other hand, you can better judge the layout, outline and overall appearance, because the content is presented very cleanly and clearly.
