Making WLAN faster: How it works

If you want to increase the WLAN speed in your house, you should first choose the right location. The distance to the end devices and the construction of your house play an important role. In addition, choosing the right router is crucial for a fast Internet connection.

How to make your WLAN faster

The speed of the WLAN in your home depends on numerous factors. Most of the time, just making a few small changes can improve it. If the tips do not help to establish a sufficiently fast WLAN connection for all end devices in the house, a repeater can be useful.

These tricks will help you

  1. Find the right location: There should be as few walls as possible between the router and the end devices. Especially walls with steel beams inhibit or prevent the transmission of WLAN signals. Place the router elevated and try to create an even distance to all end devices.
  2. Objects can also affect the speed of the WLAN. Therefore, make sure that counterparts, such as microwaves, Bluetooth devices or water containers are not located near the router.
  3. Update: Outdated drivers often lower the transmission speed. It is best to enable automatic updates on your computer.
  4. Disable power saving mode: Some routers come with a power saving mode enabled. This lowers the speed of the WLAN and should be disabled.
  5. The right router: The router offered by your Internet provider is not necessarily the right device for your purposes. Inform yourself online or in the store about the different models and change if necessary.
  6. Also changes to the router settings are helpful to make the WLAN faster. So it may be worthwhile to switch from the 2.4 Ghz band to the 5Ghz band.
