Dispose of rechargeable batteries properly - think of the environment

It always happens that rechargeable batteries no longer serve their purpose and you have to buy new ones. Now that the old rechargeable batteries are no longer needed, you need to dispose of them. We explain how to dispose of batteries properly.

How to dispose of your rechargeable batteries properly

Both batteries and rechargeable batteries have no place in normal household waste, as they cannot be devalued here. Therefore, adhere to the following instructions for proper disposal:
  1. Accumulators as well as batteries must not be disposed of in the trash can, as they contain harmful substances that can harm the environment and yourself.
  2. If you recycle the batteries properly, individual components can be reintegrated into the cycle of recyclable materials, thereby conserving environmental resources.
  3. You must not dispose of a battery directly when you realize that it is empty. Pack the batteries in a sealed plastic bag. Because battery acid is corrosive and can cause serious injury.
  4. Never touch damaged batteries with bare hands, because it can lead to severe burns.
  5. If the contacts of lithium-ion batteries are exposed, then you should mask them with a piece of scotch tape. So you prevent that it comes to dangerous short circuits.
  6. Batteries can be returned in Germany at all retailers who sell batteries and rechargeable batteries. Throw your batteries in the green collection boxes and lithium-ion batteries in the yellow boxes.

What happens to a permanently installed battery?

There are also devices in which the battery is permanently installed. In this case, you must dispose of the entire device or remove the battery. Many manufacturers offer the exchange of the batteries cheaply. If the device is no longer salvageable, dispose of it at a recycling center.
