Installing Android on the Raspberry Pi

If you want to install the Android operating system on your Raspberry Pi, you first have to choose an Android version. Here you have several to choose from, all of which offer both advantages and disadvantages. Depending on which version you have chosen, the installation process is also different.

How to install Android on the Raspberry Pi

There are different versions of Android that you can install on the Pi. Here, the free LineageOS 15.1 is especially worthwhile. To install Android on your Raspberry Pi, you need a Raspberry Pi 3 with a power supply, an HDMI cable and an SD card. For the latter, 16 GB is usually enough, though 32 GB is recommended. In addition, a screen is necessary. A touchscreen is best here, since mouse and keyboard controls take some getting used to on Android. You will also need an image file of LineageOS 15.1 and the Etcher tool.
  1. Connect the SD card to your PC and then launch Etcher.
  2. Now you need to select your Android image as the source and your SD card as the destination.
  3. Start the process to flash Android to the SD card.
  4. Next, connect the SD card to the Raspberry Pi.
  5. Start the Pi. Now Android should boot up and can be set up via the touchscreen, just like you are used to on your smartphone. Beachten Sie, dass jedoch kein Play Store erreichbar ist.
