Torch in hand luggage - is it allowed?
A flashlight is a useful utensil - especially if you are planning an exploration vacation and want to go on a night hike or visit a cave. The flashlight must go in your hand luggage on the plane and not in your checked luggage. Also, you must transport all parts separately.
How to take a flashlight on the plane?
Transporting a flashlight in your hand luggage is not a problem, as long as you follow certain safety rules.- The flashlight must be stowed separately from the battery and illuminant (bulb) in your hand luggage. Even with an LED flashlight, you must keep the battery separate.
- Commercially available batteries you can carry in your hand luggage without concern, but with lithium-ion batteries it behaves differently. Generally, you may take a battery with a capacity of 100 watt hours. For some airlines, you may further take two spare batteries with a capacity of 100 to 160 watt hours each.
- With large flashlights, you can still get problems in the security check, because these can also be used as a baton. In the end, the security officer decides what you can take with you and what not.
- You must also transport diving lamps in your hand luggage. It is best to register these in advance already with your airline.
