Log in as administrator - this is how it works in Windows

Windows 10 creates a profile for the administrator in addition to a personal one. As an administrator, you have more options on your system. So you can change security settings, install software and hardware and much more. However, for this you must first log in as an administrator.

This is how you log in as an administrator

If you only want to start software with more rights on your computer, you do not have to log in directly as an administrator. For this purpose, it is sufficient to right-click on the file. Then select Run as administrator from the drop-down menu. However, if you want to make changes to the security settings, for example, you must log in as an administrator.
  1. Make sure you have access to the administrator account. For this you need the username and the corresponding password.
  2. Press the Windows key on your keyboard or enter "cmd" in the search bar at the bottom left. Confirm the entry with the Enter key.
  3. Then hold down the left Shift and Ctrl keys while clicking on the "Command Prompt" result. Alternatively, open the command prompt as described above as an administrator.
  4. Now type in the console "Net user Administrator/active:yes" and press the Enter key.
  5. After that, the administrator account is activated and you can log in as an administrator via the Start menu. In the start menu, you will see the corresponding button when you click on your profile picture on the left.
  6. When you start your PC, you can also directly select the administrator account and enter the password. After that, you are also logged in.
