AirPods don't charge - this is the cause

You can charge your Apple AirPods either via a USB cable or a wireless charging station. Every now and then, however, you may experience problems during the charging process, causing the headphones to not charge properly or even not charge at all. Triggers for the charging problems are various causes.

Charging problems: How to charge AirPods again

When you charge AirPods via a USB cable, it may be that one of the plug connections has come loose unnoticed. Therefore, check all the connections. Even with a wireless Qi charging station, cables can come loose. Therefore, make sure that there is a connection to the power source.
  • The AirPods must be in the case in order to charge.
  • Let the headphones charge for at least 15 minutes before using them.
  • When charging the AirPods via a Qi charging station, make sure that the status LED of the case is facing up. If charging begins, the status indicator should go out after a few seconds. If this is not the case, try charging the headphones via the USB cable.
While charging, you can use your iPhone or iPad to check the charging status of the headphones. To do this, simply connect your smartphone or tablet to the AirPods. If a small lightning bolt appears next to the current battery level, the headphones are currently charging.

Hardware defect - what to do?

If charging does not work via the USB cable or a wireless charging station, there may be a hardware defect. In this case, you should contact Apple Support.
