The abbreviation GIF stands for small animations that you can find on the Internet. Some programs offer that you use a GIF as a profile picture. However, the GIF may only have a certain size and must be cropped beforehand. This works best with image editing programs or online.

How to crop a GIF

To crop a GIF, no expensive software is necessary. For example, you can use the free image editing software GIMP.

1. Download GIMP and install the tool on your PC.
2. The first thing you need to do now is open the GIF in GIMP. To do this, simply go to "File" and "Open".
3. Now you can select the cut tool in the toolbox (Ctrl + B). This looks like a scalpel.
4. With the right mouse button you now cut out an area. You can recognize the cut out area by the fact that it is not darkened.
5. If you are satisfied with the area, you can end the cutting with a double click of the left mouse button and the layer is automatically cropped.
