Safari: Detect and remove virus
Apple devices are considered particularly safe. If your device does get caught, you can use a virus scanner to clean up your device and your Safari browser. Beware: false positives can also fuel your fear.
A popup informs: Virus has infected Safari
Are you surfing and suddenly a popup or even a new tab appears, informing you that you have been infected by a virus? Do not click on the message under any circumstances and especially do not download any programs that are recommended in this message. Safari is not a virus scanner and cannot inform you if your system is infected with malware.- Delete the cookies and cache.
- In Safari, activate the popup blocker under "Preferences > Security > Suppress popups". If the checkmark is set, all popups will be blocked.
Solutions if Safari is infected with malware
After such a message or if you really suspect that you have caught a virus or other malware, you should scan your Mac. Signs of malware include locking up certain areas of your hard drive, intrusive advertisements in the form of popups, or even a very slow system.- Decide on an antivirus.
