Connecting external hard drive to PS3 - this is how it is possible

If you want to reserve the PS3's internal hard drive for installing games, you can connect an external hard drive. On this, in turn, it is possible to store music tracks and movies and play them through the device.

How to connect an external hard drive to your PS3

To connect an external hard drive to the PS3, you must first prepare your device and the hard drive. When doing so, keep in mind that the disk you want to connect must be in FAT32 format. If this is not the case, you can format it through your PC. To do this, connect the hard disk to your computer and open the "Disk management". You can access this via the search function. Now select the external hard disk and, if necessary, choose "Format" to convert the disk to FAT32. But the folder structure on the hard drive is also important.
  1. Before you connect the hard drive to the console via the USB port, pay attention to the folders.
  2. All data must be stored in certain folders so that the device can recognize and display them.
  3. Erstellen Sie daher über den PC zuvor die Ordner „MUSIC“, „PICTURE“, „VIDEO“.
  4. Beachten Sie außerdem, dass Filme nicht in einem untergeordneten Unterordner gespeichert werden sollten.
  5. Überprüfen Sie, ob ein Update für die Firmware der PS3 vorliegt und installieren Sie dieses zuvor.
