German Post: Handyporto nutzen - so funktioniert

If you want to post a letter but don't have a stamp handy, you don't necessarily have to go to the nearest branch. That's because Handyporto is a very convenient alternative.

Handyporto has been around for a long time, but many people are still unaware of it. Yet the application is quite simple.

German Post: How to use Handyporto

The process is quite simple:

1. Send an SMS with the content "letter" or "postcard" (depending on the purpose) to the number 22122.
2. In response, you get a code with twelve numbers.
3. This code you simply write on the envelope, exactly in the place where you otherwise stick the stamp.
4. Post the letter.

The code is scanned during letter processing and paid via your cell phone bill. The downside to this convenient method is that the prices are slightly higher than stamps: 99 cents for a postcard and 1.19 euros for a letter. There may also be additional costs for sending SMS - this depends on your tariff. In addition, no stamp codes for larger letters are available via mobile postage.This procedure is only possible until the end of 2020 anyway, when mobile postage will be replaced by an even more modern method, namely mobile stamps via app.
