Installing Linux alongside Windows - this is how it's possible

If you only have one computer, but need two operating systems, then it is possible to install both Linux and Windows on it. When you then start your PC, a boot manager will appear. This allows you to decide which operating system you want to boot it with.

This is how you install Linux alongside Windows

If you want to install Linux alongside Windows on your PC, it doesn't matter on which disk you store the former. However, it is important that there is enough free memory available. Once dual-booting is available to you, you can select which operating system you want to boot with after the system starts. After some time, it will automatically boot into the default system. In this case, that is Windows.
  1. The first thing you need to do is create a bootable USB stick. Since Windows is already on your computer, you need a Linux image and the appropriate stick.
  2. Once you have created your bootable USB stick with a Linux distribution of your choice, it is necessary to change the boot order in the BIOS/UEFI. This will allow the PC to boot from the USB stick on the next boot.
  3. Now the operating system installation wizard will start. Follow the instructions and activate that the operating system should be updated during the installation.
  4. In the next step, the wizard now indicates that Windows is already installed on your computer.
