Explained: What is Books on Demand and how does it work?
At Books on Demand (BoD), aspiring and active authors can publish their works without having to go through a selection program. We explain the principle behind the popular platform.
The book market does not only live on the giant Amazon. In Germany, Books on Demand has been a popular alternative for years. What is Books on Demand and what are the advantages?
Books on Demand is a so-called self-publishing platform. As such, it offers authors to be able to self-publish their works there.- This can be done both by print and in the form of eBooks. Depending on the need, there are different services or products, such as BoD Fun or BoD E-Book.
- In contrast to a traditional publisher, Books on Demand has no own program as well as selected authors who are under contract.
- For this reason, BoD primarily attracts aspiring, unknown authors. After all, the search for a publisher is a very difficult place with little chance of success. Thanks to self-publishing, the works can nevertheless be made accessible to an audience.
- Whether the publications are then also successful is another question.
