Cancel a train ticket: How it works online

If you can not take a trip, it is advisable to cancel the ticket to save a few euros. With Deutsche Bahn, this is relatively easy to do online. Our guide shows the steps for the web view and the app.

These rail tickets can be canceled

With the right timing, it's no magic trick to find cheap rail tickets. However, with attractive prices comes less flexibility, as is evident when it comes to cancellation. Whether you can cancel your ticket depends on the type of ticket. Flex and Sparpreis tickets can be canceled up to one day before departure. However, 19 euros will be charged for this. Group tickets can be cancelled for 36 euros up to one week before travel. Country tickets, Schönes-Wochenende tickets and Quer-durchs-Land tickets, like most promotional offers, cannot be canceled.

How to cancel a rail ticket

In the web view, first log in to your customer account.

1. Then call up the overview of your trips under "My last booking" > "Show all bookings".
2. Select the desired trip that you want to cancel and click on "Details/Cancel booking" > "Cancellation" > "Perform cancellation".

In der App geht es folgendermaßen:

1. Öffnen Sie den Reiseplan für die Fahrt, die Sie stornieren möchten.
2. Tippen Sie unten auf das Feld mit den drei Punkten für weitere Optionen.
3. Wählen Sie „Auftrag bearbeiten“.
4. Bei „Ticket stornieren“ leiten Sie den Vorgang ein.

Ob und wie viel Geld Sie durch die Stornierung zurückbekommen, hängt vom Zeitpunkt der Stornierung sowie von der Art des Tickets ab. Mehr Infos gibt es auf dieser DB-Seite.
