Windows 7 in XP Mode - these steps are necessary

Windows XP was probably the most popular operating system of its time. Because of this, a lot of programs still exist today that are only available for Windows XP. If you own Windows 7 and still want to start a Windows XP program, it is a good idea to use the Windows 7 XP Mode.

How to use Windows 7 in XP Mode

Older hardware and software can often only be used with Windows XP, as modern operating systems no longer support them. Nowadays, it is a good idea to install Windows 7 in a Virtual Box and put it in Windows XP Mode to run Windows XP programs.
  1. Download Windows XP from Microsoft.
  2. Unzip the file with any ZIP tool. Windows 10 already has a ZIP unpacker built into the file browser.
  3. Now install the free Virtual Box software to host a virtual version of Windows 7 in XP Mode on your PC.
  4. In Virtual Box, select the machine you set up earlier. Typically, that should be Windows XP at this point. At the top of Virtual Box, click "Start" to get the virtual machine started. Nun sollte Windows XP gestartet werden und Sie können Ihre alte Software oder Hardware mit der Virtual Machine nutzen.
