Mario Kart 8: Collecting coins - how to get them

In Mario Kart 8, collecting coins is important to get additional parts for your vehicle. If you don't currently have enough coins and would like to collect more, we'll show you several ways to increase your coin balance here.

How to succeed in collecting coins in Mario Kart 8

When you are on the road in Mario Kart 8, you can always see your current coin balance at the bottom left of the game. If you do not have enough coins, there are several ways to collect new coins in Mario Kart 8.

1. If you take part in a race, it is possible to collect up to ten coins on the track.
2. If you drive through a question mark during the race, you sometimes also receive coins as an item.
3. During a race, however, it is also possible to lose coins. This is always the case when you have a crash or an opponent hits you with an item.
4. All the coins you have collected will be credited to you after crossing the finish line.

The previously collected coins can then be used for various purposes. Thus, the collected coins not only allow you to increase your speed in current races, but also to buy new parts to upgrade your kart.
