USB-C: Advantages on all levels

Micro-USB is still widely used around the world today. However, the changing of the guard by USB-C is already in full swing. The advantages of USB-C are many:

• First, a very convenient aspect: USB-C connectors are point-symmetrical and can therefore be connected regardless of the direction of rotation.
• Also in terms of durability, the use of USB-C is associated with advantages, since with this type up to 10.000 plugging operations are possible.
• USB-C connectors are versatile, for example, for the transmission of audio and video signals or for charging smartphones.
• The data transfer rate of 1,200 megabits per second is significantly higher than its predecessor.
• The higher speed is also apparent when charging. Smartphones with USB-C, such as the Samsung Galaxy S8, are fully charged in an astonishingly fast time, and that despite the large battery capacity.
• USB-C handles many different protocols. This is convenient, as one port can perform the tasks of several ports in this way.

These are the disadvantages of USB-C

The only practical disadvantage compared to the previous Micro-USB is the spread. Depending on what devices you have, you need different cables or adapters. However, this is typical for a phase of technological change and only a matter of time. In a few years, (just about) all devices in the home will be compatible with USB-C.
