Android: Change keyboard - how to customize it

When setting up your smartphone, you need to specify a language. The keyboard you use will then be set up for that language. However, if you use other languages more often, it makes sense to change the keyboard on your Android smartphone.

How to change the keyboard on Android

You have an extensive selection of languages to choose from when setting up your keyboard. You can get these by installing the Gboard app. Then proceed as follows:
  1. Open the "Settings" menu on your Android device.
  2. Click on the "System" sub-item and select "Language and Input" from the menu that appears.
  3. Now you can click on various buttons. Tap on "Keyboards" and then on "On-screen keyboard".
  4. You will now see the option "Gboard", which you must select.
  5. You will see an overview of all the languages that Gboard offers you. Decide on a language of your choice.
  6. You will now be shown various layout options for your keyboard. Choose one of them.
  7. Once you are satisfied, finish the setup by tapping "Done". Following this, you can start using the keyboard.
