Google has decided that Huawei smartphones will no longer receive Android updates and will no longer be able to use Big G's services
Huawei smartphones will no longer receive Android updates and will no longer be able to use Google apps and services, such as Gmail and the Google Play Store. This is the bombshell that Reuters, one of the world's leading news agencies, released on Sunday afternoon.
Google's decision to cut ties with Huawei comes in the wake of the Chinese company's inclusion on the U.S. government's blacklist for the company. Huawei's ban is part of the "tariff war" initiated by the United States against China. For the Chinese company it is a hard blow: it will be able to use only the AOSP version of Android (the open-source one), but its smartphones will no longer be able to receive updates, nor use Big G services. The timing of implementation is not yet known, but already from the next few days the release of updates should be blocked.
What will happen to Huawei smartphones
Google commented on the news by publishing a tweet with the official Android account. The Mountain View-based company informed that it will respect the U.S. government's actions, but services such as Google Play and Google Play Protect will continue to work on Huawei devices. The Chinese company, on the other hand, is still not releasing an official statement. Huawei is the world's second-largest manufacturer of Android smartphones and one of Google's most important partners.
According to Reuters news agency, Huawei smartphones will immediately lose access to Android OS updates, while the Chinese company's upcoming devices marketed outside of China won't be able to have access to the Google Play Store and some Google services.
Addio to Intel Processors
Google wasn't the only U.S. company to implement the Trump government's directives. Even companies that produce processors and have a commercial agreement with Huawei will be forced to break any relationship. These are Intel, Qualcomm, Xilinx and Broadcom. What will be the consequences for Huawei? Most likely, the next MateBook computers will not be able to use Intel processors.
What will Huawei do?
If the U.S. government does not find an agreement with China, Huawei will have only one option to continue selling smartphones: to make its own operating system. According to the well-informed, the Chinese company is already developing Huawei OS, but the operating system is still in the early stages. Now Huawei is obliged to accelerate the development. We'll see what happens in the coming weeks.
