Cleaning the oven - dishwashing liquid or spray?

Fat steam and incrustations from caked-on food residues - cleaning the oven is one of the unpleasant tasks in the household. If you don't have an oven with a special cleaning function, other tools are needed to get it clean again.

How you clean the oven depends on the degree of soiling.

Clean the oven with dishwashing liquid

The easiest way to clean the oven is directly after its use. The longer soiling has dried, the more time-consuming it is to clean. If the oven is not too badly soiled, proceed as follows:
  • Clean the interior of the oven with a cloth soaked in dishwashing liquid.
  • Apply the dishwashing liquid undiluted on stubborn spots and let it soak in.
  • Temporarily heat the oven to about 100 degrees, the higher temperature enhances the fat-dissolving effect.
  • Work the incrustations after cooling with the rough side of a kitchen sponge and wipe everything away with a damp cloth.
  • Do not use a pot cleaner made of steel wool or scouring milk, this will cause scratches and damage to the surface.

Clean the oven with oven spray

If the dirt cannot be removed with this treatment, oven spray can help. It contains sodium hydroxide, also called caustic soda, which dissolves grease encrustations.
  1. Spray the spray on the heavily soiled areas. Be careful not to inhale the fumes.
  2. Let the agent act according to the instructions on the can and wipe away the dirt later with a cloth. In doing so, be sure to wear gloves. Because if sodium hydroxide remains longer on the unprotected skin, it can dissolve the lipids in the corneal layer and destroy the tissue.
  3. After that, scrub with a sponge and repeat if necessary.
