Macros in Excel - how to work faster in Excel

A macro is a stored sequence of actions so that cumbersome or annoying executions can be quickly automated. For example, a macro automatically plays a sequence of keystrokes and mouse clicks. Macros must first be activated and set up in Excel.

Macros in Excel: how to set them up

First you need the developer tools in Excel. These are activated by clicking on "File" and "Options" and selecting "Customize ribbon". Now check "Developer Tools".
  1. Once the setup is complete, you can start recording macros.
  2. Click into the Developer Tools tab and select "Record Macro" in the "Code" group.
  3. Now give the macro a name and an associated key combination or sequence and also provide a description.
  4. Start to perform various actions in Excel and perform specific steps.
  5. Once you are satisfied with your macro, click "Stop recording".

Also suitable for programmers

  1. When you select a macro and click "Edit" in the "Developer Tools" tab, you will be directed to the Visual Basic Editor.
  2. Dieser Editor hilft Ihnen dabei, den Code hinter dem Makro anzuzeigen und zu verstehen.
  3. Wenn Sie sich mit Programmierung auskennen, können Sie den Makro auch durch reine Programmierung einrichten.
