LaTeX: Insert backlash - using the special character

If you work a lot with word processing programs, you have surely come across LaTeX as an option. This program offers you many benefits if you know how to use it properly. We will show you how to insert a backlash in LaTeX.

How to insert a backlash

Since LaTeX is suitable for a wide range of applications, the special characters are divided into two groups.
  1. The backlash can be found in the category of characters that are already reserved in LaTeX, since these are both provided with a function and can be represented as characters.
  2. LaTeX reserves these characters so that mathematical formulas are represented accordingly.
  3. You must thus apply a suitable LaTeX code so that the backlash is applied correctly.
  4. If you would enter the backlash only as a character from your keyboard, then you face the problem that LaTeX automatically assumes that this character is not a part of a text, but that you want to introduce a mathematical environment.
  5. To be able to insert a backlash as a pure character in LaTeX, you must enter /textbacklash. This is the only way the program can recognize that this backlash is not part of a mathematical formula.

Why LaTeX is useful even without a mathematical environment

Generally, many characters come with a LaTeX code that you can set more straightforwardly in other programs. However, LaTeX gives you a good overview and very appealing formatting. This is essential, especially for scientific and professional submissions, in order to present the content in a positive visual way.
