Descaling a water boiler: how it works

If the water in your living area has a high lime concentration, you should descale your appliance regularly. You can recognize limescale deposits by a white coating that settles mainly on the heating rods and on the bottom of the kettle. You can use simple home remedies to descale.

How to descale your kettle

Lime is completely harmless to health and is found in varying concentrations in German tap water. However, at high concentrations, lime can burden household appliances and even lead to defects. Therefore, you should especially decalcify your kettle regularly. Household products can be used for this purpose. These are inexpensive and less aggressive than conventional cleaning agents. Alternatively, a filter for your faucet can also help. This filters lime and other problematic components from the tap water before use.

You can use these means for descaling

  1. Vinegar essence: Stir two tablespoons of vinegar essence in a glass of water and boil the mixture in the kettle. Let the vinegar act for half an hour and then rinse the device well.
  2. Aspirin: Dissolve one tablet in water and boil this mixture in the kettle. After 30 minutes, you can rinse the kettle and use as usual.
