What does 1 liter of water cost? This is how precious the resource is
Water is a resource you probably take for granted. Yet water is one of the most coveted resources in the world, and economists predict that the next war will be fought over water. That's why you should know what water costs.
What does water really cost?
There are significant differences in water prices, depending not only on the type of treatment, but also on the region in which you live.- On average, you have to pay about two cents per liter of tap water in Germany. The deviations between the individual regions are so small that they hardly matter.
- Although you would think that these costs would not matter, it is surprising that German tap water is rather expensive in an international comparison. This is because tap water in Germany is strictly monitored and treated.
- If you prefer to drink mineral water, then the liter costs 19 to 50 cents. This is because the water is packaged, shipped, sold and enriched with minerals.
- Although every German drinks an average of only 2 liters of water per day, so you probably also consume 500 liters of water per day. Worldwide, we are thus top consumers.
