Instagram: How to enable the new Dark Mode

Dark Modes are trending and already included in many major smartphone apps. Meanwhile, Instagram has also followed suit and implemented the feature. Read how you can activate it.

Dark mode is easy on the eyes and battery alike; in addition, some users find black on white easier to read. Given Instagram's user numbers, the integration of night mode is only logical.

Instagram: Dark Mode available for iOS and Android

When activating Dark Mode, however, there are some peculiarities depending on the app:

• iOS users cannot activate Dark Mode in the Instagram app. At least iOS 13 must be installed, then you have to activate the Dark Mode for the entire device in the system (this goes under "Display & Brightness"). Thereupon, Instagram also appears in Dark Mode.
• On Android, the Instagram night mode also runs through the mobile operating system. You can find the Android night mode under "Settings" and "Display".

If Instagram does not run in dark mode afterwards, check whether there is an update for the Instagram app. In older versions, the mode is namely not yet included.
