iPhone: Hard Reset without iTunes

The hard reset of your iPhone is also possible without the Apple software iTunes. Bad cards you have, however, if the device is frozen or can no longer be turned on. Then only the maintenance mode helps, which you call only by connecting to iTunes.

In the settings: Hard Reset iPhone without iTunes

If you have to reset your iPhone via a hard reset, all of the device's data will be erased. Therefore, you should create a backup in iCloud, for example, as a precaution. Even if you want to sell the iPhone, you may still need some data.
  1. Open the settings.
  2. Navigate here to "General" > "Reset".
  3. Then select "Erase all content & settings".
  4. Tap on "Erase this iPhone".
  5. Then wait until the process is complete. Now turn on the iPhone, set it up completely again or restore a backup.

iPhone can not be operated

If your iPhone has hung up and no longer responds, you can of course not reset it as described above. In this case, a forced restart can help, after which you can get back into the settings.
  • On current iPhones, briefly press the volume up button, then briefly press the volume down button before holding down the power button until you see the Apple logo.
  • If your iPhone has a home button, press and hold it together with the power button until the device reboots.
If you have forgotten your password or the lock code or can not operate your iPhone even after the forced restart, use the DFU mode for the hard reset. However, for this you need to connect your iPhone to iTunes.
