Stardew Valley: How to play in splitscreen mode

The patch to version 1.5 was the biggest update ever. Among the key features was the introduction of local splitscreen mode. Read how it works and can be activated.

Always welcome: Stardew Valley's local couch co-op mode is very popular.

Local split-screen sessions are a relic from the good old gaming days - however, they still exist. Stardew Valley shows that there's a good reason for that.

Stardew Valley: This is the splitscreen mode

You start a splitscreen session the following way:
  1. Start a co-op game as host in the normal way first.
  2. When creating the farm, set the number of huts - this should correspond to the number of players. For existing farms, you can buy additional huts (at Robin).
  3. Start the game and go to the options.
  4. There you will find under "Multiplayer" the option "Start local co-op".
  5. The joining player must then press the displayed button on the controller to join.
The screen now switches to the split-screen view and from now on you take care of the farm together. A total of up to four players are possible in this mode, the dynamics on the farm just like on the couch reaches a whole new level.
