How does Tide work? The phenomenon explained compactly

In documentaries, magazines or other articles, you have certainly encountered the term "tide". However, this word is little known, especially away from the coast, even if you are certainly already familiar with the phenomenon it describes.

What does the term tide describe?

The term "tide" describes the tides and the interaction of the various phenomena associated with them.
  1. You can observe the tides particularly well on the Wadden Sea. During low tide, the water retreats and a wide expanse of sand with small rivulets remains.
  2. At low tide, the habitat of numerous creatures and microorganisms becomes visible, which is crucial for the health of the waters.
  3. At the North Sea, regular mudflat walks are offered, which allow you to explore the mudflats for kilometers.
  4. However, such explorations should always be made only under expert guidance, as the tide is very treacherous and brings death to many people annually.
  5. The tide, on the other hand, ensures that the sea level rises again and the water returns. At the same time, this process happens much faster than inexperienced observers initially think.
  6. The play between high and low tide always follows the same schedule and usually lasts for about 12 hours and 25 minutes.

Why does the tide exist?

To understand the interaction of the tide, you need to think of the Earth as a planet in our solar system. This is because tides are determined by the constellation of the moon, sun and earth. Two physical forces come into play: the force of attraction and the centrifugal force. The moon exerts the force of attraction on the water of the earth, while the centrifugal force comes into play with the sun.You might also be interested in:Google Earth: Display the sun and observe the courseWith Google into space: How to use Google Earth MoonGoogle Earth Easter Eggs: The best in the overview Print
