In Windows you have several options to take a picture of your screen. Mac OS also offers these options. Here, you can choose from various keyboard shortcuts that allow you to save the entire screen, a specific app window, or another part of the display as an image.

How to take a screenshot in Mac OS

If there is an image or a chat that you would like to show to others, it is easy to do so with a screenshot. In Mac OS, you have numerous options to create this image. You can save the whole screen or only certain parts of it as a photo.
  1. With the key combination "Command"-key + "Shift" + "3" you make a photo of the whole screen. This will then be displayed to you on the side. Click on it, you can make various changes to the photo. Then click "Save" and the photo will be saved to your computer.
  2. If you want to specify a particular area of your screen from which a screenshot should be taken, then use the key combination "Command" key + "Shift" + "4". Then drag the cursor over the area you want to save, and then release the mouse button.
  3. Alternatively, press the key combination "Command" key + "Shift" + "5". You will then be presented with a new menu that gives you more options to choose from. Again, you can select from which area of the screen you want to take a photo. In addition, you can also record your screen as a video.
