What is the ASIN for eBooks and books? We explain

Amazon started as a small online bookstore and today, as a global shopping giant, books and eBooks continue to take a central role. The ASIN is a useful tool in this context.

A pure Amazon affair: the ASIN is an item number not only for eBooks.

There are well over a million books in Amazon's range. A clear identification comes only handy.

Find eBooks and books quickly: The ASIN helps

ASIN means "Amazon Standard Identification Number."
  • It is the item number that is assigned individually to each book on Amazon. But not only that: Every product at Amazon gets an ASIN - so the number has not only to do with books.
  • However, you can easily use the ASIN to clearly identify or search for books.
  • This is even possible via URL entry by appending "/dp/ASIN number" to the Amazon main domain of the respective country, so for German users https://www.amazon.de/dp/ASIN-Nummer.
  • Specially for books, the ASIN is at the same time the ISBN. However, the latter applies across the board for the entire book trade, while the ASIN is valid in the Amazon universe alone and affects all products there.
The ASIN is created and assigned automatically, for example, as soon as a product is set for sale on Amazon. Folglich gilt es auch für eBooks von Kindle Direct Publishing oder Taschenbücher, die auf diese Weise verlegt werden.
