What is Google Books? We explain search for reading fans

Google's search algorithm finds everything the Internet has to offer. This includes books, but Google Books is relatively unknown. We introduce the service in a little more detail.

Google Books lets you search for, find, and buy eBooks.

Officially, Google Books is "the largest private collection of retro-digitized books." This description calls for an explanation in plain language.

What is Google Books and how does the service work?

Google Books is a Google search specifically for digitized books.
  • The address is books.google.com.
  • Just enter the name of an author or a book in the search box. Also the ISBN number leads to the target.
  • You get the results in the usual Google listing. Behind each link you will find excerpts of the book; you can use these as a reading sample.
  • In addition, you will see a button in the left sidebar to buy the book. This is done via the Google Play Store, where you consequently need an account.
You will then receive the book as an eBook and can read it on your mobile device or eBook reader. Kindle owners are officially left out, as Amazon's readers are only compatible with eBooks purchased from Amazon. Über einen legitimen Umweg ist es dennoch möglich, wie in diesem Ratgeber beschrieben.
