iPad won't unlock - how to solve the problem

If the iPad won't unlock, the problem can often be solved by rebooting. You force this with a key combination, if your device does not ragiert. Updating the software can also help.

Help if your iPad won't unlock

If your iPad won't unlock, try restarting it. Make sure that the device is sufficiently charged before you force it.
  1. For iPads without a home button, first briefly press the volume up button, then briefly press the volume down button, and finally press and hold the power button until you see the Apple logo. Do you have an iPad with power button, hold down the power button and the home button at the same time.
  2. If the restart does not help, an update of the software can help. Connect the iPad for this with the PC and start iTunes. Click here on "Check for updates". If they are available, they will be installed automatically.
  3. As another alternative, you are left with the option to reset the iPad. To back up your data, you should sync your iPad with iTunes beforehand. Then go to "Device" > "Overview" > "Restore" in iTunes and reset your iPad.

iPad can not be unlocked: forgotten code

Should you not be able to unlock your iPad because you have forgotten your code, you can unfortunately not simply reset it. Instead, you need to put it into DFU mode to clear the code and set up the iPad as a new device. In doing so, you need to restart the iPad while it is connected to the computer. Now you can reset it and restore it from a backup.
