Fire TV Stick no sound - these are the possible causes

Amazon's goal with its Fire TV Stick is to turn old TVs into Smart TVs. This is a cost-effective alternative to buying a completely new TV. However, if you don't hear any sound, check some possible causes.

What can you do if the Fire TV Stick does not play sound?

  1. Check that you have not muted your TV. This can happen accidentally and can be fixed in seconds.
  2. Check if all your connections are working. HDMI sends all video and audio signals through the same port at a very high transfer rate. Unlike old connections where you had many different cables, a fault can now be on a single cable. Just because the video playback works, doesn't mean that the audio part will work as well. Therefore, try a different HDMI output. If you then hear the sound again, your HDMI port is defective.
  3. It is also possible that the internal speakers of your TV are defective. You can tell by the fact that you do not receive sound with any connected device.
  4. If the problem persists, the Fire TV Stick itself may also be the cause. Consult Amazon for this and have the stick checked.
